Library Services

The following services are offered at the Newburgh Free Library:

Two locations: the Main Library is located at 124 Grand Street in the City of Newburgh. The Town Branch is located in the Newburgh Mall at 1401 NY-300, Newburgh, serving the towns of Newburgh and New Windsor. Click here for Hours & contact info.

RCLS Gateway Mobile App: The Ramapo Catskill Library System Gateway mobile app lets you locate and search your library catalog wherever you are. If you are a library card holder, you can locate books, movies, music and more with easy search features designed for mobile devices. Download the Gateway app on App Store or Google Play store.

Computers at the Main Library and Laptops at the Town Branch are available for public use by children, teens and adults to access the Internet or use Microsoft Office products. You may download files to a removable storage device like a flash drive. Bring your own ear buds, or purchase at the customer service desk.

Using a valid RCLS or Newburgh library card, adults, teens and children may use the computers for two sessions per day. Guest passes are available to adult visitors, ages 16+ at the Main Library. Computer use is on a first-come, first-served basis; no advance reservations are accepted. Adults with a RCLS or Newburgh library card may borrow a laptop for in-library use only for 2 hours per day at the Main Library.

Printing is available from library computers, library laptops and personal laptops. Black and white copies are 15 cents per page and color copies are 50 cents per page. Printing is free until end of 2021! Limit 50 pages per adult, per day. You may use mobile or wireless printing both at the Library and from home, as long as you have an Internet connection. Print from your desktop or laptop computer, or from your device or smart phone. Click here for more information on using wireless printing.

Public Copiers may be found on the main and second levels of the Main Library. Copies are free until end of 2021! Limit 50 pages per adult, per day. Copies are 15 cents per page.

Fax Services are available for free until end of 2021! Limit 20 pages per adult, per day. $1 per page. Please note that we only send faxes; we do not accept incoming faxes.

Free Computer Classes and / or one-on-one Tech Support for computers, devices, tablets and phones are available. For more information, class schedule and/or to make an appointment, visit our Computer Training page.

Local History Room: You are welcome to visit the Newburgh Free Library’s Local History Room at 124 Grand Street location when Local History staff is available. Call ahead to make an appointment to use the resources in the  Local History Room at 845-563-3617 or email hhgeo@rcls.org. For more information, visit our Local History & Genealogy page.

Curb-side and Door-side Pick-up of library materials is available. Request your items via our catalog, the RCLS Gateway App, or by calling 845-563-3600 at the Main Library or 845-566-0460 at the Town Branch. Please bring your library card and be prepared to read off the number. We check out your items, then walk them out to you!

Pick Books for Me: Librarians Choose, You Check Out!: Looking for some reading, watching or listening recommendations? Our librarians can help! Just fill out the online forms for our readers advisory service for Adults, ages 18+ or for Children & Teens, and we’ll pick out up to five items that can be checked out at either the Main Library or the Town Branch.

Microfilm Readers allow you to research back copies of newspaper articles and are available for use by the public on the 2nd floor. Copies are free until end of 2021! Limit 50 pages per adult, per day. Copies are 10 cents per page. Ask a staff member for assistance.

Tax Forms are available in limited quantities during tax season. Reproducible forms may be copied or printed at 15 cents per page. Tax forms and instructions are also available online at www.irs.gov and at www.tax.state.ny.us

Notary Services: We offer FREE notary public services for the benefit of the community at the Main Library. This service is available when our NYS commissioned staff members are available in the building. Call ahead at 845-563-3605 to confirm availability and/or make an appointment. English/Spanish service available.

The following guidelines will be followed in the provision of Notary Service:

  • Valid photo identification with signature is required of any customer seeking Notary Service.
  • Notaries will not provide service if the customer, document or circumstances of the request for Notary Service raise any issue of authenticity, ambiguity, doubt or uncertainty for the Notary. In this event, the Notary may, at their sole discretion, decline to provide Notary Service.
  • Hours: Monday – Friday:  9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Museum Passes

Museum passes can be checked out with a Newburgh Free Library card, just like books or DVDs. The passes are available from the Main Library on a first-come, first-served basis; passes cannot be reserved in advance for specific dates.

Newburgh museum passes are listed in our online catalog; to see the full list, click here, then click the link that says, “Museum pass”. The catalog will show you which passes are currently checked out and which are available to borrow. Museum passes cannot be reserved.

After checking out a pass, please note its terms and policies (which differ by museum or institution).

* Due to continued COVID-19 restrictions, we ask that you call the museum or check the museum’s web site BEFORE planning your visit to confirm the museum’s current hours and entry requirements. *

What you should know:

  • The pass borrower must be an adult Newburgh Free Library card holder with no fines or lost/overdue items on their record.
  • The pass must be checked out to an adult card (unless it is a Mohonk Preserve pass).
  • Only one pass may be borrowed at a time.
  • The loan period for a pass is 3 days.
  • The late fine is $10 per day.
  • Passes are considered lost if they are not returned to the Main Library within one (1) week.
  • If you lose a museum pass, you will be charged the full cost of the museum pass.
  • The museum you visit may ask to see your Newburgh Free Library card, along with the membership pass and a photo ID.
