Something for Everyone! That’s one of our mottos here at the Newburgh Free Library. In the old days, we called this one of the Laws of Libraries – for every reader a book and for every book a reader – but now we have so much more to offer! We have printed books, of course, for all ages and diverse interests plus audiobooks, ebooks, music (both CDs & electronic downloads) and DVDs.
Programming is a vital element of the Youth Services Department, incorporating story hours, activity times (think Legos!), movies and live performers for preschoolers up to teenagers. Homework Help is available to elementary school students during the school year and our collection includes many resources for parents and educators.
The Collection Development and Program/Outreach Departments offer book discussion groups, educational programs from cooking to photography, film and concert series and much more. Reference Services and Information Technology provide classes in the eLearning Center on a variety of computer applications. More advanced computer skills training is available through our Learning Express Library database. Those needing to use a computer for job search or research can sign up for time on one of our public access workstations or laptops while others who need an Internet connection can access WiFi using their personal laptops.
Job seekers can use other library resources for help finding employment as well. Students, genealogists and others can find information through our online databases, which cover biography, history, medicine, law, genealogy sites and more. Spanish-speakers, citizenship applicants and new readers are welcome to use our Spanish-language collection, language learning materials and other services as well as meeting with our community partner, Literacy Orange, for one-to-one tutoring in language and math skills. Special equipment is available to assist those with special needs.
