More Info:

To commemorate the exhibition of Trina Greene’s statue, “First Step to Freedom”, the Local History Staff of the Newburgh Free Library asked student members of the NFA (Newburgh Free Academy) Black History Club, to share artwork, poetry, and inspirational words inspired by abolitionist and women’s rights advocate Sojourner Truth (1796-1883). Presented here are their submissions along with commentary provided by the students. We wish to graciously thank them; as well as Ada Freeman, Club Advisor, for sharing these thought-provoking works that show how Sojourner’s words and deeds have echoed through the centuries.
