2024 Summer Reading Program
Summer Reading at the Newburgh Free Library is happening now through August 16th. The theme of this year’s program is “Adventure Begins at Your Library,” join us for another jam-packed, fun-filled summer planned for children, teens and adults!
Summer Reading provides youth and adults with opportunities to socialize and foster community. This year’s Summer Reading Program goes from July 1st to August 16th. Beginning July 1st, children and adults can pick-up a log from the library, which they can use to keep track of the time they spend reading and attending library programs. Each Summer Reading log submitted increases your chance at winning a raffle prize geared to children, teens or adults. Summer Reading prize winners will be announced on August 19th.
The Newburgh Free Library will be kicking off Summer Reading fun for youth with David FunN’s Library Adventure Magic Show on Thursday, July 11th at 6 p.m. Children ages 4-10 years old and their families are invited for an evening of laughter, magic and wonder! On July 22nd at 6 p.m., the library will be hosting an epic adventure to the Land Down Under with the Didgeridoo Down Under Show, an energetic fusion of Australian music, culture, comedy, character building, storytelling and audience participation for all ages! In addition to these performances, the library’s youth services department will also be hosting weekly storytimes, crafts, yoga and STEAM programs for children.
Teens are invited to participate in Battle of the Books, a trivia bowl style competition for teens entering 6th through 12th grade. Book discussion and practice meetings will be held throughout the summer at the Newburgh Free Library. Our team will then compete in a regional battle on August 25th against teams from other libraries in the Ramapo Catskill Library System.
The library is partnering with the Newburgh Brewing Company to offer a Summer Book Club for adults. At the first meeting on July 11th at 5:30 p.m., folks are invited to meet at the Brewery and share what they’ve been reading and decide the books that will be discussed at the July 25th, August 8th, and August 22nd book club meetings.
