Perhaps you are beginning a family history or have hit a block in your research. Remember Newburgh Free Library’s Local History Resource Center houses materials dating back to the early 1800s and knowledgeable librarians are available to guide you in your search.
The 4,000 books in our collection include genealogical books and guides, local church records, family histories, select local cemetery records and materials pertaining to the history of Newburgh and New Windsor,
Our LHRC houses Newburgh City Directories back to the 1860s and telephone directories back to the 1930s through early 2000s and a sizable Urban Renewal collection. It also houses 60 linear feet of pamphlet materials and local newspaper clippings. Many of these items are indexed by author, title and subject in the Library’s OPAC and/or the Local History Room’s separate catalog of approximately 75,000 items. Approximately 425 maps and 425 photographs and two hundred postcards dating from 1910. Newburgh Enlarged City School District year books can also be perused in our beautiful new resource center beginning April 2022.
